Our guide to finding the right duvet for your needs
We advise you to choose your duvet well! Because sleeping well is important your duvet and pillows are in the front line when it comes to giving you a restful night’s sleep.
To have a profound and restful night’s sleep, you need to be comfortable in your bed and not too hot or too cold under the duvet. But, which size to choose? Which material: natural or synthetic? What level of warmth? What criteria should be taken into account?… It is not easy to find the duvet that best suits your needs.
Just like winter clothing, a good down duvet should keep the body warm while ensuring breathability.
The ideal duvet combines warmth and lightness. You should avoid choosing a lower quality duvet because in order to provide enough warmth it should be more padded. The duvet will then be heavier and less breathable, therefore less comfortable.
Because to sleep comfortably, you need to create an ideal sleeping climate despite the thermal variations of the body and the room. Consideration should be given to size, filling and heat index. These criteria vary according to the temperature of the room and also according to each person.
Then, in order to guarantee the life span of a good duvet, it must bewashing resistant. The filling material can deteriorate, some duvets shrink in the wash, others are not washable in water and must be entrusted to a professional.
In general, a duvet should extend over the sides of the bed (30 to 50 cm) for reasons of comfort but also for aesthetics. It is therefore preferable to choose a size larger than the mattress.
You can also opt for two single duvets. This allows you to choose a comforter adapted to your needs.
There are three types of filing : synthetic, feather or natural fibers or filling that mixes natural and synthetic fibers. The choice is made according to your taste, budget, allergies or simply for maintenance reasons.
When choosing a duvet, it is important to find out what your warmth needs are.
There are different heat indices, often represented by a number between 1 and 5. The higher the index, the warmer the down. Summer duvets are numbered 1 and 2, winter duvets are numbered 5, and level 3 duvets are considered intermediate.
Do you sweat a lot at night? Are you rather cold? Is it cool in your house? How do you heat your home? Does your apartment heat up a lot during the summer? All of these considerations should be taken into account when purchasing your duvet.
There is also the possibility of purchasing a model with two detachable duvets to compensate for temperature variations during the year.
Synthetic, natural fiber or feather, your down must be aired and shaken regularly.
